This year’s national theme, “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope,” emphasizes the government’s commitment to economic recovery, stability, and sustainable national development. It reflects a shared vision of steering Ghana toward a brighter and more resilient future despite current challenges.
In line with this national vision, Management, parents, facilitators, and learners of Great Victory Academy (GVA) commemorated the Independence Day celebration on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, with a short yet organized ceremony on the school premises.
The purpose of organizing the celebration within the school was to create an opportunity for every learner to participate in the march past, instead of the usual selection of only fifty (50) learners as directed by the Ghana Education Service. This initiative ensured inclusivity and gave all learners the chance to appreciate the significance of Independence Day.
The school’s Regimental Band, Martial Arts Team, and Cadet Corps added colour, discipline, and pageantry to the programme, making the celebration lively and memorable.
The event was further honoured by the presence of our partners from Burkina Faso, led by Dr. Gambetta Nacro, Founder of Apidon Royal College. Their participation beautifully blended their unique cultural style with the celebration, symbolizing unity, cooperation, and the rich diversity of African heritage.
PTA Welcome Address
During the ceremony, the PTA Chairlady, Madam Jamilatu Mijinma, delivered a brief but inspiring welcome address.
In her remarks, she warmly welcomed parents, guests, and partner schools, especially Apidon Royal College from Burkina Faso, expressing appreciation for their presence and continued partnership with the school.
She also commended the Management and facilitators of GVA for organizing a programme that allows every learner to actively participate in celebrating Ghana’s independence.
Addressing the learners, she encouraged them to remain disciplined, confident, and patriotic, reminding them that “the future of Ghana rests in the hands of the young generation.”
Madam Mijinma further reaffirmed the commitment of the Parent–Teacher Association to continue supporting the growth and development of Great Victory Academy.
She concluded by wishing everyone a successful, colourful, and memorable celebration.
A section of the parents who participated in the march past later shared positive reviews, applauding Management for promoting patriotism, inclusiveness, and full participation among learners, and encouraging the school to continue organizing such meaningful programmes.
Guest of Honour’s Remarks
In his brief remarks, the Guest of Honour, Dr. Gambetta Nacro, highlighted two important messages for learners and stakeholders.
First, he commended the partnership between Great Victory Academy and Apidon Royal College, describing it as “a strong symbol of unity, cooperation, and shared educational vision among African nations.”
Secondly, he urged learners to love their country, respect national values, and grow into responsible citizens who will contribute positively to the development of Ghana and the African continent.
He congratulated Management, staff, parents, and learners of GVA for organizing what he described as “a colourful and meaningful celebration that promotes discipline, culture, and patriotism among young people.”
Vote of Thanks
In her vote of thanks, the Founder of Great Victory Academy, Rev. Mrs. Comfort Quartey, expressed appreciation to all stakeholders for their support and participation.
She advised the learners to stay away from bad company and remain focused on their academic pursuits, emphasizing that discipline, determination, and hard work are the keys to success.
Rev. Mrs. Quartey also proudly noted that many former students of the school are currently excelling in various fields, encouraging the learners to follow in their footsteps and strive for excellence.
Conclusion
The celebration ended on a joyful note as the learners were refreshed and interacted happily with one another, reflecting the spirit of unity and pride that the Independence celebration represents.
Indeed, the event not only strengthened patriotism and discipline among the learners but also reinforced the strong partnership between the school, parents, and international partners, making the 2026 Ghana Month celebration at Great Victory Academy truly memorable.
